In the midwest, truck scales will weigh corn, grain and even hay, but that’s not all that crosses the scales for one company. Their busy scales have also sized-up tractors and horses that participate in pulling competitions.

While horses and tractors can keep scales full of activity, this company's main duty is weighing grain. The company, with two other locations relies on Rice Lake OTR truck scales.

Changing Seasons
The seasons still have an impact on business. While the facility averages dozens of weighments during the summer months, in the busy autumn they average 100 a day – mainly corn. This action keeps the facility open 24/7 as needed; the additional facilities are open until midnight.

Many of the resources are used for feed and fuel ethanol plants across the country. The remainder of the crops that flow through the company's travel north destined for export across the Great Lakes from the ports or head south via the Mississippi River.

This particular company handles and stores grain for area farmers, which requires weighing and testing the grain for moisture. This process provides services to all area farmers that they wouldn’t be able to access otherwise.

New Equipment
With the increased volume the growing company was experiencing and the size of the vehicles, they outgrew their old scale. Using the previous equipment, they had to weigh some vehicles by axle in two or three weighments.

The company selected Rice Lake’s SURVIVOR® 70-foot OTR with a 6-inch-thick concrete deck. The NTEP-certified SURVIVOR OTR features 75,000 pound capacity load cells, with top access to load cells and junction box, and G-Force mount assemblies. The OTR, with a 270,000 pound full scale capacity, can handle a concentrated load capacity of 90,000 pounds and 90,000 pound dual tandem axles. To show the weights from the scale, the IQ 710 digital indicator and ticket printer are connected to their SURVIVOR OTR scale.
